About
Born in Austin, Texas, Wade Sullivan grew up surrounded by the sounds and stories of the American South. From the country records playing in his family home to the live music drifting through Austin's neighbourhood bars, music became an inseparable part of his upbringing. A self-taught guitarist with a naturally deep, weathered voice, Sullivan developed his songwriting around the people and experiences he understood best. Broken relationships, unreliable trucks, long working days, old friendships and nights spent making questionable decisions became recurring subjects in his music. His sound draws from the storytelling traditions of Texas country and outlaw music, combining acoustic guitar, expressive pedal steel and earthy rhythms with the melodic accessibility of contemporary country. What distinguishes Sullivan is his ability to find humour in situations that aren't particularly funny. His songs frequently begin with a stubborn refusal to acknowledge a problem before gradually revealing the regret or vulnerability underneath. His debut single, Bitter Out of My Mouth, introduces that contradiction through the story of a man attempting to drink away his heartbreak, only to discover that some feelings cannot be washed away. With his rugged appearance, unmistakable Texas drawl and conversational songwriting, Sullivan represents a modern country artist who remains closely connected to the genre's traditional roots.
