Jake Harlow

Born in Detroit in 1999, Jake Harlow developed his musical identity around the city's gritty rock heritage and the uncompromising energy of American garage bands. Drawn to distorted guitars and musicians who valued personality over perfection, he began writing songs as a teenager, finding inspiration in the people, relationships and contradictions surrounding him. Harlow's songwriting combines sharp observations, dark humour and emotional vulnerability. His lyrics frequently explore attraction, recklessness, jealousy and the consequences of impulsive decisions, delivered through a distinctive voice that moves between conversational confidence and explosive melodic intensity. In 2022, Harlow joined forces with guitarist Caleb Price to form what would become Black Avenue. With bassist Owen Graves and drummer Finn Walker completing the line-up, the group developed a sound rooted in heavy guitar riffs, infectious bass grooves and raw live-band energy. As the band's frontman, Harlow provides much of its creative identity. His ability to balance provocative lyrics with moments of unexpected sincerity has become central to Black Avenue's songwriting. With their debut single Gasoline, Harlow introduces the band's darker, more seductive character, establishing the foundations for a catalogue that promises both rebellious rock anthems and more introspective material.
