Constellation

Lyrics

You were sitting on the rooftop, With your shoes beside your feet, Saying everybody's going somewhere, And you're stuck on the same street. I said, "Maybe you're just waiting, For a place you've never seen." You laughed and said, "You're dreaming," Then you leaned a little closer into me. She's got her head up in the stars, Oh my darling you fit in, The constellation is complete with you, It's where you always should've been. When I'm reaching up in space, That's just a stroke upon your skin, My observation I believe is true, It's where you always should've been. You keep talking about leaving, Like there's nothing here to keep, Got a hundred little reasons, That you whisper in your sleep. But the city's looking different, When you're standing next to me, And the things you call imperfect, Are the things I love to see. She's got her head up in the stars, Oh my darling you fit in, The constellation is complete with you, It's where you always should've been. When I'm reaching up in space, That's just a stroke upon your skin, My observation I believe is true, It's where you always should've been. And I don't know much about the universe, Or how the planets find their way, But if the whole sky fell around us, There's something I would want to say. You don't have to be somebody, You don't have to prove a thing, If the world can't find a place for you, Then you can have mine, darling. She's got her head up in the stars, Oh my darling you fit in, The constellation is complete with you, It's where you always should've been. When I'm reaching up in space, That's just a stroke upon your skin, My observation I believe is true, It's where you always should've been. And when the morning comes around, And the stars are out of view, I'll still see the whole sky, Every time I look at you.

Constellation finds Archie Bennett at his most vulnerable, trading the playful wordplay of his debut single Love Song for a tender reflection on love, belonging and the quiet beauty of ordinary moments. Beginning with a conversation on a rooftop, the song follows two people looking towards the night sky while contemplating their place in the world. As one dreams of leaving everything behind, the other finds something extraordinary in the person standing beside him. Built around delicate fingerpicked acoustic guitar, intimate vocals and understated piano, Constellation gradually unfolds into a warm, emotionally rich arrangement. Its restrained instrumentation allows Bennett's conversational delivery and heartfelt lyrics to remain at the centre of the recording. Romantic without becoming sentimental, Constellation captures the reassurance of being loved exactly as you are, offering a quieter, more reflective glimpse into Bennett's developing musical identity.
